Role: Azer survivor of the temple’s restorers
Location: The Temple of Volcanic Glass
First met: Session 1: The Last Chain

An Azer, a fire dwarf of the Elemental Plane of Fire, with a long beard of vivid red flame. Every party found him alone and badly wounded among his dead kin, covered in blood and leaning on a broken spear or half a trident as a crutch, his blood flaring a little where it met the air. He speaks only Ignan.

His people had come to restore the ancient The Temple of Volcanic Glass, believing it a shrine to honourable fire elementals. They did not know it was consecrated to Elemental Evil, and their work opened the way for the cult. When the salamanders came, they killed his kin with tridents and dragged the survivors to the peninsula.

At every table he led the party to the captives, then gathered whoever could channel magic and joined hands with them at the temple altar. He chanted in Ignan while the Plane of Fire burned through their bodies, and they held it until a tear opened beneath the Elemental Cataclysm and dragged it home. Afterwards he gave each party a necklace of fireballs.

At each table

  • Session 1 (Table 1): He came out of the tunnel with his hands raised in peace. Professor Simley understood him by magic and answered with drawings on a conjured slate. This whole place is about to explode. Hurry, we must stop the ritual. Simley and Goodheart held the circle with him first, and the rest of the party joined them.
  • Session 2 (Table 2): He was hiding behind a pew. Cain understood him through his helm: Surfacers had taken them. And my friends. He held the circle with Cain and Blackadder, and gave the party a necklace of fire beads.
  • Session 3 (Table 3): He drew in the ash with his broken trident while Zarek worked a ritual to understand him: a helmet, a snake carrying it off, a little figure in a pool of lava. Hank and Zarek held the circle with him, and afterwards he dropped where he stood, utterly spent. He apologised for his people’s mistake, promised to lock the place down, and gave the party a necklace of rubies that turned out to be a necklace of fireballs.
  • Session 4 (Table 4): He sneezed behind a pew and took the disguised Argo and Brendan for his brothers. He scolded their ‘slave’ Adam, then slipped aside when it was obvious they were not Azer. Adam and Brendan held the circle with him. Thank you. You’ve saved the world from our hubris.
