Role: The cult’s executioners, serving the Cult of the Elemental Eye
Location: The Ritual Peninsula
First met: Session 1: The Last Chain

Serpents from the waist down with the arms of men and fiery eyes, carrying tridents and spears that fly back to their hands when thrown. Their bodies pour off heat that scorches anyone who lingers beside them, and their blood bursts into flame where it touches the ground. They crush their enemies in their coils like constrictors. Fire cannot hurt them, and cold hurts them twice as badly as anything else.

They are the hands of the cult whose spiral-eye mark turned up at the mining camp, in the tunnels and among the missing-person notices in town. They killed the Azer restorers of the temple, dragged the captives to the peninsula, and threw them into the lava one at a time. Every death shook the mountain and raised the lake, and fed the chained elemental below. About fifty more crowded the fingers of rock round the lake to cheer the executions.

At every table the last of the executioners, dying, called on Tharizdun, the bound god, pressed an amulet or medallion to its chest and burned to ash, and the Cataclysm rose. The Cataclysm then turned on the cheering crowd and swallowed them all in its lava.

At each table

  • Session 1 (Table 1): Three guarded the captives and threw two miners in before the party closed. The last, its skull broken by Goodheart’s hammer: It is too late. I give myself to Tharizdun.
  • Session 2 (Table 2): They opened by hurling tridents and struck Cain down. Blackadder’s darkness left the executioner screaming with no victim to find. The last crushed a bloody medallion to its chest, crying Tharizdun!
  • Session 3 (Table 3): Three, slowed by Zarek’s magic. Bobby knocked one into the magma, and Zarek shattered another with cold. The one with the crushed jaw dragged itself across the stone and cried Tharizdun!
  • Session 4 (Table 4): Two on the peninsula. Brendan’s ice showed their weakness and shattered one. Argo’s arrow through the throat felled the other, which spoke the one name Tharizdun and slammed its medallion against its chest.
