A scruffy, molting parakeet with a clipped wing and a bald patch on the back of his crown, worn there by the stress of belonging to Bull Carver.
Session 1 — Marley’s Bones
Started the escape. While Lloyd was waving a pistol at the cages, Barnabas took the bubbling stewpot off the stove in his talons and flung the whole thing over the old swabbie’s face. The gun went off into the ceiling and the mess hall came apart from there.
Took a cleaver across the same wing that was already clipped and lost feathers rather than his life. Later, trying to make himself look large and dangerous at a rat on the docks, he put his weight on a rusted-out bar of the gibbet, snapped it, and fell into the ocean.
Redeemed himself twice: he helped Kiwi lift the legs and pelvis out of that same gibbet, and outside the tavern he raked a redcoat’s eye clean out of the socket, leaving it hanging by the nerve.
When Bull saw him at the fort, the hardest man on the island picked him up, cradled him to his chest and went quiet.
