A postcard of a beach — palms, coconuts, seashells dotting the sand. The crew’s longboat is pulled up here, untouched. Two sets of footprints lead away from it: most of the group went east toward the fort, a smaller set went north.
At sunset a glowing, half-transparent woman in a pirate hat walks up and down this beach, muttering, looking for something. She cannot leave it.
And under the sand behind her, past a scatter of stacked rocks, a plank trapdoor over a cache: two chests of cut emeralds, rubies and diamonds — around five thousand silver — and four cases of rum. It had been twenty feet from where she was pacing the entire time.
The agreed rendezvous point for the crew, and where the night ended.
