The crew’s ship, anchored at the remotest part of the island, deliberately far from the fort, the docks and the village. The pirates took the longboat in from here and did not come back.
The mess hall. Five parrot cages, a stove, a bag of birdseed, a dog bed by the fire, and a cabinet of hanging dried sausages. Where the escape started.
The captain’s cabin, at the stern. An ornate desk hauled off a Spanish galleon, a disheveled cot, and a neatly organised rack of amulets and holy symbols sorted by country of origin. On the desk, a logbook and a rough sketch-map of the island — a drawn longboat, lines to three possible landing spots, and one large question mark.
Left aboard: Lloyd the swabbie and his old hound. Both now considerably worse off.
