Godshome. As the party saw it in Session 1 Recap - The Baronet’s Commission.
The home of The Baronet Sorrel, in the wealthy district of Godshome — the City of the Mount. That district isn’t on the stair; it rings the outside of the mountain, one layer out and up. The palais is huge and ostentatious. It has trees out front, which in a desert city with no water means a great deal of money being poured into the air. The Baronet’s fortune came from selling water.

The gate

Two guards stand at the gate in heavy armour painted white to reflect the sun. They are visibly suffering in the heat. They turn away anyone they take for rabble until shown an invitation. On seeing the party’s, one muttered to the other, “Another one?” They then insisted that no other groups had come before, and lied badly.

The courtyard

The greenery is even denser past the gate, almost like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, with a fountain actually running. The temperature drops the moment you step in. A maid in the formal dress of the Capital, clearly overheated in it, guides visitors through.

The study

Up a flight of stairs, on the second or third storey, behind huge wooden doors that creak loudly when they open.

  • The collection: the room is practically a museum. Artefacts stand on pedestals everywhere. There are dragon skulls on the walls, idols, pieces of skeleton, and giant teeth that might belong to a dinosaur or a dragon. Korath judged the bones and teeth to be genuine monster parts and genuine relics.
  • A grimoire on one pedestal: the Tome of Abyssal Magic. Elunia found its letters merging into script she could read, until it gave her a migraine and the words fell apart again.
  • The window: a huge, curved, round stained-glass window behind the desk, showing a nature scene. As the sun comes through, the scene seems almost to animate. The signature Hugo Syro is in one corner.
  • The desk: set in front of the window, with a chair that swivels round. There are coasters bearing the house crest (Lucia took one) and fine glassware.
  • Drinks: a side table holds a tray with a crystal decanter, and there are spare decanters kept under the counter. Guests were served cold iced tea with something alcoholic in it.
  • The safe: a massive steel safe on a shelf, so heavy that the desk groaned when Greta set it down. The Baronet’s diamond came out of it.
  • The room is pleasantly cool.

Household seen there

Greta; the Baronet’s daughter; and Sasha the maid.
