Role: Blacksmith of Marin’s Hold (unnamed so far)
Status: Working flat out on armour and arrows for the wall

Description

A young dwarf with a very short beard — far too young, by any dwarven reckoning, to own a shop of his own. He works a mostly open-air smithy (forge under a roof, a small enclosed building beside it) and curses under his breath as he goes, tossing failures onto a junk pile. On his hooks hang a few truly fine pieces among many a journeyman might have made. The fine ones are his late master’s.

His master

Dead in a forge accident: the apprentice put wood in the forge before it had dried, steam burst, and molten metal sprayed over the old dwarf. “No better way for a dwarf to go” — though the screams suggested otherwise. He is now the only one in the village with any skill, making do.

Session 4

  • The Reeve has ordered new armour and arrows for the wall; he has no time for idle customers.
  • Farmers are trading him family heirlooms for food. He sold Captain Gor an oak hunter’s longbow traded that way, and took Gor’s shortbow.
  • Job: the Inquisitors have ordered silver arrows for the wall, because silver burns the flesh of the creatures that come out of the forest. He will pay top price for any silver the party brings back from tombs and dungeons, and make some of the arrows for them.
  • He deals in arms and armour only, by agreement with Finch Three-Fingers, who deals in everything else.
  • His account of the threat: creatures come out of the woods every so often; it is why the Reeve banned magic, believing it summons them. Other settlements in the forest have been overrun and consumed; only the Reeve has held on. Farms disappear every year — “nothing like we’re experiencing now, though.”
