Role: The Reeve’s daughter — a bastard, unrecognized
Mother: Unknown — though Nora has her ring
Status: Alive and back in Marin’s Hold; offering a reward

Background

Nora is Reeve Tarly Winters’ daughter by blood and by nobody’s acknowledgement. He has never recognized her. Who her mother was is not known — not to the village, and not, as far as anyone can tell, to Nora.
She snuck out alone on a mushroom foraging trip, meaning to surprise her father with a stew made from his favourite mushrooms. That detail sits oddly against the rest of it: an unrecognized bastard walking into the Gloaming by herself to cook a man his favourite meal.
On the way she fell through the forest floor into some kind of structure beneath it. She got herself out. It was only later that she realised she had lost her mother’s ring. She is offering a fat emerald to anyone who recovers it.
She also remembers seeing several old stone statues of knights near the place she fell through.

Open Questions

  • Nobody can name her mother, but Nora has her ring — so someone gave it to her, or she was left with it. Which?
  • Greymoss is not Winters. Whose name is it — her mother’s, or one she was simply given?
  • The Reeve has a much younger wife and no heir, a subject he is visibly sensitive about. Does the wife know Nora exists?
  • Where does a girl the Reeve won’t acknowledge get a fat emerald to spend on a ring?
  • She is paying strangers rather than asking her father. That is the whole shape of her, in one decision.
  • A buried structure ringed by stone knights, close enough to the village that a girl walked to it alone — what is it?
