Role: Barter-house owner
Finch Three-Fingers runs less a shop than a standing consignment and fence operation out of the back of Marin’s Hold. He’s missing half a hand — to what he swears was a river monster, though most of the village quietly assumes a duel gone wrong during his old life as a barge trader.
Finch keeps old shipping manifests from his predecessor, one of which lists a rare ruby amulet, the Heart of the Raven, delivered years ago to a “Lord Demetrius.” He asked Brielle, with her light fingers, to recover it for a rich reward if the opportunity ever arose.
Session 4
The party came back without the Heart of the Raven — they had come within reach of the ruby medallion in Ravenloft and not taken it. Brielle told him she held him personally responsible for sending them there; Finch pointed out they were going anyway, and that his ex-wife blames him for everything too. His shelves are much barer than they were; famine, he says, is good for business.
New job — the salt pork importer. Finch had arranged for an importer to sail a load of “only slightly expired” salt pork upriver from the Southern Kingdoms, several days’ journey south. The man is a week overdue, and a fisherman pulled his finger, signet ring still on it, out of a carp’s mouth. Finch suspects foul play. 100 gold to find out what happened — which also squares the Heart of the Raven. Brielle took it. He keeps the ring in a drawer with about twenty others: not many weddings these days; buy low, sell high.
He bought the party’s Ravenloft silverware (20 gold), golden censer (100 gold) and golden candelabra (100 gold). He does not deal in arms and armour — that goes through the smith, by agreement.
On the Bittermold seal: the family has been dead for years, so people say; theirs was one of the first holds to fall when the curse came on the forest — “the demons pouring out of the trees, the rise of Mugdulbulb” — in the last couple of hundred years. He asked Enki to destroy his vial of ooze and burned the drop he’d poured out; the pestilence has not yet reached inside the walls, and he means to keep it that way.
