Role: Castellan
Status: Active; posting bounties at Marin’s Hold
Known for: Offering a reward to investigate the troubles at Orlaine

Background

The castellan associated with Marin’s Hold, known so far only through the job board. Both postings about Orlaine — the early one about disappearances and failing crops, and the later one after the food shipments stopped entirely and a messenger failed to return — carry his name and his reward.
That the food supply is his brief suggests he holds a practical office rather than a ceremonial one.

Open Questions

  • Castellan of the Reeve’s Keep, or of somewhere else?
  • What is his relationship to Reeve Tarly Winters — subordinate, steward, rival?
  • He is paying for information about Orlaine twice over. How much does he already know?

Appearance

A kind-hearted-looking man with a big red beard.

Session 4 — first meeting

The party first saw him without knowing who he was: that morning he was standing at the refugee tent by the gate, beside his goblin clerk, while the clerk wrote each arrival’s name and home into a ledger and Egrid ladled out gruel. They did not speak to him there.
He is the Castellan of the Reeve’s own keep: the party found him by the sound of him ordering the servants about, with a goblin clerk (Srugz) trailing him and writing in a book. He poured out the party’s half-reward for Ravenloft at the Reeve’s order, and supplied the Crayfish’s feast wine from his own cellar.
He offered 100 gold for actionable information on the old Bittermold keep, where cloaked figures have been seen — “surely cultists of some evil deity, or demon worshippers.” Enki accepted. The Reeve confirms the Castellan had wanted someone to investigate the Bittermolds for some time.
Note: the job board recorded Vane’s reward against Orlaine and Morvath’s against Bittermold. In play, Vane offered the Bittermold job. Both may stand.
