Anitron (Construct) · Enforcer 3 (Arbiter) · Homeworld Noxilus · Faction: Kuzai Syndicate

“Then you don’t remember a world without robots. There was a time when humanity faced the universe alone and without a friend.”

Appearance

An older model: boxy, clunky and heavily built, made of slab shapes and hard angles with no attempt to replicate a living body. Chipped paint back to bare steel along every edge. Where another Kuzai member would wear tattoos, Calvin has the same designs etched directly into his plating.
He carries a portable audio player and a data chip of country music, and maintains both obsessively.
He does not care what pronoun anyone uses for him, and does not really understand the appeal of gender, being a Construct.

Background

Calvin comes from Noxilus, a world of Entropy. Vargs and the other Entropy Discordants subsist on mortal life, and Calvin is a Construct, so he and they were never a threat to one another. He lived among them.
While he was there he helped them feed.
There is a paradox buried in any attempt to apply a First Law in a place like that: helping the Undead harms the Living, and helping the Living harms the Undead. Calvin’s answer was not to resolve it but to change who the Law applies to. Not no harm to humans. No harm to the people I call my own.
He feels a kinship with the Entropy Discordant — both of them lifeforms that don’t survive the way most things do, both of them bending the Harmonic cycle of life and death out of shape.
He joined the Kuzai Syndicate because their loyalty to family resonated with him. His morality was never about general protection. It is about protecting his own.

Loadout

Weapons — powered combat sword, scatterblast, and a shield concealed in an integrated compartment until he deploys it.
Healing — Invigorate pool, Cure Wounds, Healing Word, Shield of Conviction.
Utility — Mending, mechanic’s tools, Harmony’s Grasp, and Vigilance, which tells him where every Construct within sixty feet is standing.
Also carries — 10 power cells, motion sensor, grav spikes, hauling pulley, smoke grenades.

Notable

  • Does not sleep. During a long rest he appears inert but stays conscious, and can finish one in four hours by consuming a power cell.
  • Immune to exhaustion from suffocation, dehydration and malnutrition.
  • Speaks Common, CSL and Dissonant.

Compassionate Use

Went down twice: once when the Khymera farm’s Boom Bot exploded in his face, once under the claws of the dead in Hope’s Reach’s cold room, and got back up both times to keep healing everyone else. Watched Agent Vosk’s face for the truth about Imee Sarra and found nothing he could read. Kept the list of what the job required. Spotted the transfer tag that sent the crew to the cold room, sensed the contagions behind its door before anyone opened it, and was the first to say what the bodies in the tanks meant — a weapon tuned to the Cavalon royal line. When the Chemtek foreman offered six thousand for it, Calvin pointed out that the Cavalon Empire was not his own.
