Who and where the crew ran into in Neo-Edifex, as of the end of the job.
People
Agent Vosk — Khymera Biotech. Salt-and-pepper beard, black suit, dark glasses indoors, a handkerchief for every seat he has to sit on. Hired the crew twice: the farm, then Imee. Claimed a fatherly connection to her. Ward 7’s records say he is A. Vosk, Legal and Compliance — the man who hired everyone in the Department of Experimental Treatments, pushed for results on Project Viridian, and moved its money through a nail salon he owns. A much younger photo of him was taken from his old office. Collected Imee and every document at Delivery Ramp 5, from the back of a fruit van.
Imee Sarra — the “runaway employee.” Grew up near Hope’s Reach and went back into the building because people kept coming in with treatable illnesses and never coming out. Was trying to get the evidence to Tovac Wren. Delivered to Vosk. Reported weeks later as killed, with her family and friends, in what the news called a gang shootout.
Tovac Wren — reporter at Action News 5, the Argonaut-run independent news outfit. Sued into retracting stories about Khymera more than once. Would not run this one without evidence. Reported weeks later as gunned down “buying drugs” from Imee.
The Chemtek foreman — ran a salvage crew in high-vis vests stripping medicine from Hope’s Reach for a free clinic on the lower levels. Lost two men to the pharmacy’s security. Later turned up in the cold room with a much better-armed crew and paid 6,000 credits for half the Batch K samples.
Dan Trask — “Department of Experimental Treatments.” Signed off every Veldrin-C dispensing line. Khymera corporate had never heard of him.
M. Trevaine — the charge nurse whose locker, uniform and badge the crew borrowed. Kept asking about Patient 7, was told to stop, and transferred out.
Elias Moore — Subject 7. Sixty-one, no next of kin, a grandmother who came over on the resettlement ships. Crossed off.
Fido — Torse’s mouse droid and the Stargazer’s pilot. An excellent one.
Places
The Stargazer — the crew’s ship. An old clunker that gets them from place to place. Captained by Torse.
The Khymera hydroponic farm — where the job began. Its crops were being fed grey water pumped up from the lower levels, and the sludges came up with it.
The Astro-Burger — a chrome-and-checkerboard diner twenty storeys up, decorated with nostalgia for a world nobody there has been to. Real dairy, at a price. Chimkins every way you can think of. Booth 5.
Hope’s Reach Hospital — a black monolith in a bulldozed field in Ward 14, once Khymera’s low-income outreach hospital, closed eight years. Sold to a Globelin developer’s Tesali Amusements, who plan an entertainment district on the site. Floor 9: staff rooms. Floor 8: admin and the project office. Floor 7: pharmacy. Floor 3: Ward 7, left out of the sale entirely, with a frozen sub-level beneath it.
Delivery Ramp 5, the Low Market — where Imee and the documents changed hands.
