Role: Medical (Combat Medic Marine)

Origins

Known to the crew as “Marge the Barge.” She received her medical training from The Babushka, one of the few hospitals that takes both paying clients and those who can’t pay. The Babushka rarely speaks; most interaction with her goes through Zhenya, a hologram assistant who appears as a small child. The Babushka treated Marge after “the rat incident,” and Marge repaid the debt by working as a nurse in her clinic for a few years.

The Price of Air

Marge was almost completely devoured by a larger-than-life rat during the “Year of the Rat” mission. She spent a long stretch afterward recovering, both emotionally and physically, and used the time to upgrade her skills and become a Combat Medic. People still call her “Marge the Barge,” but she now also goes by “Marge the Medic.” She’s currently considering trying out for roller derby.
During the Baobun Incident, Marge swallowed a sample bao bun mid-chase to destroy the evidence after a heist gone loud at Xiao! Long! Bao!. Days later, mid-sentence in the Babushka’s own office, she seized and the thing inside her tore its way out through her throat, going for her neck before the crew could kill it. She survived — lucky, given it happened in a hospital rather than the street. She’s since taken on a job from the Babushka (via Zhenya) to recover a genetic sequencer stolen by a former protege who fled to Siddhartha’s Peace.
Her med bay aboard The Second Chance is kept clean and calm, bed made every morning. She travels with a small display case of prehistoric melee weapons (including a flint hatchet) and wears a vest covered in patches that shift depending on her mood — a quiet signal to the rest of the crew. Her reading has leaned more philosophical lately: self-awareness, healing, what comes after.
Marge walked Franco’s family to the shuttle once their fare was paid, then spent the fight at the colony office putting suppressing fire into the barricades — the smoke, the floodlights and the screaming made a mess of every shot she took. She set Arnold Wilkerson’s broken arm on the shuttle floor with a bedside manner best described as Marine, and hauled Tenka out of the Abbot’s office on her shoulder while he used his own sniper rifle as a crutch, cracking his head on the entryway on the way in. Aboard The Second Chance she was steadier: she opened one pirate’s chest with the pulse rifle, shot Jason “Fox” Fiero where he stood glued to Etna, pulled Etna free of the foam, and — with a rebreather and a tank in a bridge flooded with fire suppressant — put rounds into an empty shimmer in the air until Tanya’s blood appeared out of nothing.
She held the bridge alone after that, sweeping the corridor through infrared goggles, finding nothing but a torn-up floor panel and blood leading into the ventilation, and warning the ship that their intruder was in the walls. Then she carried Carl and Bernard to the med bay one on each shoulder, arrived at a standoff between two unarmed scientists and a barricaded pirate, and settled it by firing through the gap in the door — which got her Zeid’s flashbang for her trouble and left her ears bleeding. She walked him to the brig afterward by the collar. Later she went into the ducting herself, hating every inch of it, stopped an arm’s length short of a tripwire strung to a grenade, taped the pin down and kept the grenade, and came grate-to-grate with the cyborg — flesh almost entirely gone, one hand clamped on the back of Dixie Doss’s neck while Dixie repaired her arm. They fired at each other through the grate at arm’s length. Tanya broke Marge’s arm doing it. She had it set once the shooting stopped, and is working one-armed.
Marge went into the terraforming station with the inner party, arm in a sling. She sent First Instructor Fugen a photo of a rebar shrine to Bishamonten, and identified the gel coating the station’s gutted terminals as a biological conductor — a medium to carry signals between a brain and a machine. She crowbarred open the security chief’s office, took the head off the last vine attacking Arnold, and stitched a burst across the giant’s midsection at the elevator. On the factory floor her pulse rifle blew apart in her hands as Tanya charged, and the cyborg drove a blade into her chest; it turned on her armour, and Bennett II found her alive. Two stims later she levered the Straylight elevator doors open herself. She has now survived a rat, a parasite out of a dog, and a spider made from a woman — but this one has left her weakened until she can get real care, and she carries Benny’s combat shotgun now.
