Angus runs Canyon Heavy Market, the station’s secretive hackers’ collective and data-brokerage front — the kind of place that seems to know everything happening on Prospero’s Dream before it happens. It was through Canyon Heavy that the crew’s delivery job first took shape, and where each of them picked up an individual side job for the trip.
Angus brought the crew a hot tip: one of Helios Inc.’s research vessels has gone missing, and Helios has quietly been fielding back-channel requests to launch a salvage operation. He passed along the job rumor — 150,000 Cr offered for rescue of the crew or verifiable evidence of the ship’s fate, with bonuses for safe return of cargo or personnel, and Law of Salvage applying to any returned assets.
Bennett II calls him “papa” — with good reason. Angus was the one who found Bennett’s broken body and rebuilt him, though not out of charity: he built Bennett for a purpose, a spy planted somewhere no one would think to look, tucked inside the most unassuming crew he could find. Canyon Heavy itself is a zero-g dome where hackers and operators float between workstations in an open lattice of consoles; a small drone led Bennett to Angus’s office the first time he was called in. Angus tasked Bennett with planting a listening device on the comms array at Siddhartha’s Peace for 10,000 credits, and it was through Angus’s intelligence network that Bennett tracked down a black-market weapons dealer (Creative Destruction Solutions) back on Prospero’s Dream.
